Kathmandu

While the world’s business elites and top politicians come together for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland from Jan 23- Jan 26 to discuss the increasing inequality over the riches and the super riches of the world, they are unaware of the rapidly growing inequality between the poor and the riches. Civil society organizations and social movements have been organizing various campaigns to raise their voice against inequality “Flight Inequality” across the world on the streets, social media and in public places during the week of action from Jan 19- Jan 26 2018. This movement has been the voice of the rest of the society who have been suffering due to this unjust system of governance.

There is an immediate need to address the structural causes of inequality by drawing attention of the government and concerned governing bodies through building a people powered movement around the world. The main aim of this campaign is to make people realize their rights and help shift power to the people to challenge the people with power. In the same context, Nepal Sustainable Development Goals Forum organized a Programme in Kathmandu on 24 Jan, 2018. Hundreds of social activists and volunteers from about 60 civil society organizations and social movements assembled together depicting the inequalities existing in our society. Several slogans, comics, freeze drama and cartoons depicting the status of inequality were displayed in the form of banners, posters, flex, play cards, street arts etc. Publication of articles and op-ed on inequality in national dailies, dissemination of information, fact sheets and status of inequality on various social media are also a part of the campaign that will be done during the week of action.
