Appeal to support for a campaign of controlling the Diarrhea epidemic

As per the official statistics of the government, more than 200 people have died simply because of diarrhea particularly in Mid-west and Far-west regions of Nepal since April 2009. Despite the efforts made by the government of Nepal, it does not seem to be controlling soon as increasing number of deaths are being reported daily from different districts of these regions. The reports of the death from diarrhea are also coming from other regions such as Dhading and Dolkha of the Central Region. It indicates that the other regions of the country are equally susceptible of epidemic threat. Although efforts are being put in controlling this epidemic through providing services, medicines and awareness raising activities both by the governmental and nongovernmental sectors, still a big gap has been observed in putting an integrated and concentrated efforts to take control of the diarrhea.  The government’s efforts also appear to be ineffective as a number of complaints on the lack of medicines and skilled human resources have been coming from all districts.

In this critical juncture of time, NGO Federation of Nepal (NFN) has a crucial role to play in supporting the campaign for controlling the epidemic and raising awareness among the people about the prevention of the disease. To facilitate the process, NFN has set up a mechanism for facilitation at Nepalgunj Regional Office from where our district chapters and other networking and civil society organizations will be mobilized to provide both material and awareness raising support in the affected districts.

We kindly request for support the organizations and individuals who are interested to contribute to the campaign for controlling the diarrhea epidemic. The material contributions can be sent to:
