NGO Federation of Nepal (NFN)

The genesis of NGO federation of Nepal(NFN) is the result of constant struggle of civil society organizations in nepal. Established in 1991 for the promotion and protection of social justice, human rights and pro-poor development, NFN has evolved as a national organization that works for the entire NGO movement in Nepal.

NFN is a democratic organization run by a team of NGo professionals who volunteer their services to achieve the vision of NFN. It is an autonomous, independent and politically non-partisan organization, governed by its own constitution. It has prepared and enforced a Code of Conduct (CoC) to increase accountability and transparency of NGO's in their operations. The CoC has been widely disseminated to its member NGO's and efforts are going on to observe its compliance by all members. More>>



Civil Society Organizations urged for the politics of consensus on the first anniversary of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal

A rally and mass meeting was organized by various human rights activists and civil society organizations in Kathmandu on 29th May 2009 to mark the first anniversary of the declarationof Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The rally which began from Bhrikutimandap and went through Putalisadak and Bagbazar assembled in Shantibatika at Ratnapark. Human rights activists, journalists, professionals, students and youth, minority groups, indigenous people, senior citizens and people from grassroots participated in the workshop.>>More<<


 

Regional and district level activities under an initiative, Campaign from Below for Constituent Assembly Election (CAE)

The glorious opportunity of declaration of republic state in Nepal and the purging of autocratic monarchy definitely dispersed the glee on faces of Nepalese people. The non-governmental organizations, civil society, professional groups, networks, and diplomatic missions are immensely contributing to direct the peace process towards logical end. In this context, NGO Federation of Nepal (NFN Nepal , an umbrella organization of more than 4000 organizations of Nepal is massively participating for making peace, prosperous and developed Nepal. Under the support of Canadian Cooperation Office (CCO), NFN is organizing different initiatives and programs from local level to the national level.
Targeting the historic constituent assembly, NFN organized regional and district level interaction, workshops and conferences to sensitize the people about constituent assembly, it’s proceeding and it’s importance and also worked for developing free, fair and fearless manner for the CAE by forming regional and district level networks. After the completion of regional and district level programs, local level initiatives and door to door campaigning were organized to develop awareness on CA and it’s proceeding on 375 Village Development Committees by selecting 5 VDCs from each of the district. >>Read More >>

 

 

Recommendations Handover to CA Members in Full Swing

People's opinion collection around constitutional issues is in full swing all over the districts. A one-day public interaction programme was organized in Dhading on 21 March 2009 to hand over the recommendations prepared by various civil society organizations to the CA members.

The Interaction programme was organized by District Chapter Dhading of NFN along with District Development Committee in coordination with other civil societies, federations, alliances and NGOs working in the vicinity. The programme provided a platform for the people to bring the discourses on inclusion, federalism and helped to grab the attention of the CA Members towards the hardship that every Nepali is leading for equality, identity and for mere survival. Around 115 representatives of different sectors of society including women, Dalit, Indigenous people, differently able persons, peasants, trade union, youth, intellectuals, professionals, natural resource user groups, human rights activists, NGO workers, and civil societies gathered in the programme to handover their suggestions to CA members on ten various thematic issues for writing a new constitution. The representatives of NFN and other NGOs also appealed for recognizing NGOs role in the development sector in the new constitution.

People in Dhading, after making their concerns heard, mandated the CA Members with a responsibility to incorporate every such agenda that respects people's identity, protects their rights and reinforces their access to power and resources in New Nepal.

Mr. Secretary General,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Delegates,

1. At the outset, allow me to congratulate you on your election as the President of this Assembly and to assure you of my delegation's full cooperation in discharging your responsibilities. I also thank the UN Secretary-General for his comprehensive report on the work of the UN and his positive reference to the situation obtaining in Nepal.

Mr. President,
2. It is indeed a historic opportunity for me to address this august Assembly as the first Prime Minister of Nepal of the newest republic of the world. As I stand here in front of the global leadership, I think of the long struggle that I and my party waged with single mindedness for the liberation of the common man from the clutches of the age-old suppression, deprivation, marginalization and outright negligence of the then existing polity.
